Have you felt the karanga to become a breathwork facilitator, but wanted to train somewhere that truly holds the depth this work deserves?

Our HineHau 200-Hour Breath Practitioners Training in New Zealand is now open for enrolments. September 2026 will be our final cohort for the year, and we are inviting wāhine who feel ready to step fully into this kaupapa to apply.

This training will again be held in Rotorua, on the breathtaking grounds of Lake Ōkataina, 21 to 27 September 2026. It begins with a 7-day in-person immersion, followed by a 6-month certification and mentorship process, a significant extension from our previous 4-month programme.

Becoming a breathwork facilitator is a career pathway, and HineHau is designed to give you the skills, accreditation, and community to step into that with confidence.

Why we extended to 6 months?

Founder Shannon Rose shares the reason for this change:

"What we noticed since training over 50 practitioners over the past 3 years is that training must include in-person immersion, structured learning and high-touch mentorship. This means giving practitioners in training an opportunity to be mentored through their application of their new skills.

"We also found that working with smaller focus groups was beneficial for their learning process, therefore in this training we are implementing focus group mentorship with designated trainers per small group. Working over 6 months allows our practitioners to work towards their 200 hours in practice, while being held safely in a group container."

Is HineHau training right for me?

If you feel called to facilitate breathwork and want to train in a programme that is trauma-informed, culturally grounded in Te Ao Māori, and held within an intimate wāhine community, this training was made for you. Becoming a breathwork facilitator is a career pathway, and HineHau is designed to give you the skills, accreditation, and community to step into that with confidence. If you are looking for long-term transformation, not just for the people you will work with, but for your own life and livelihood, this is for you. No prior breathwork facilitator experience is required.

What are the values and methodology of HineHau?

HineHau is rooted in Te Ao Māori and guided by the BreathWav™ modality, which accesses the full spectrum of breath for healing across tinana (body), hinengaro (mind and heart), wairua (spirit), and whānau (family and community). We blend education on the nervous system and safe facilitation methods with traditional Maori understanding of hauora and oranga (health & wellbeing).

When does the September 2026 training start?

The in-person immersion runs 21 to 27 September 2026 at Lake Ōkataina, Rotorua, 9am-7pm daily. The 6-month online certification and mentorship begins immediately following the immersion and ends in March 2027.

Do I need prior experience in breathwork?

No prior facilitator experience is required. You are welcome whether you are brand new to breathwork or have been practising personally for years. What matters most is that you are committing to training and practicing with integrity and aroha.

Is the programme trauma-informed and does it cover safety?

Yes. Trauma-informed facilitation is a core pillar of HineHau. You will learn how to hold safe, boundaried space for participants and how to navigate the breath process with care and integrity.

What breathwork techniques will I learn?

HineHau teaches the BreathWav™ method, a modality developed to access the full spectrum of conscious connected breathing for healing and restoration. You will receive templates in the BreathWav™ approach including practices for daily use and also transformative wananga spaces. These include BreathWav™ Journey, DownRegulate, UpRegulate, CoRegulate and Ngā Hau e Whā.

Will I get enough practice teaching others?

Yes. Real-world practice is built into the HineHau programme. During the 7-day immersion, within a small group you will facilitate a full BreathWav™ Workshop using the templates and mātauranga you have learnt, providing you with feedback and tangible experience . The extended 6-month container gives practitioners in training time to practise through case studies, receiving mentorship on their sessions, and building genuine confidence before graduating.

What support do graduates receive after completing the programme?

Graduates become part of the HineHau community of wāhine practitioners. Ongoing connection and support through the HineHau Network Membership is part of the kaupapa.
