ABOUT HINEHAU:

Our Kaupapa:

HineHau (formerly Elevare) was birthed by Shannon Rose, a practitioner, guide, and weaver of wairua-led spaces. Since 2017, Shannon has facilitated breathwork across Aotearoa and beyond, witnessing the profound transformation that occurs when people reconnect with their breath, not only for individuals, but for whānau, hapori, and wider systems of care.

After years of refinement &  expansion, Shannon was called to share this taonga in a deeper way,
moving from sessions and ceremonies into teaching this powerful modality so the profound benefits could spread wider.

HineHau exists to train facilitators who can hold breathwork with integrity, cultural reverence, safety, and soul. We are not here to mass-produce practitioners. We are here to walk with depth, presence, and care, honouring the ripple effect that begins when one person breathes fully, and then carries that breath back to their people.

This kaupapa is rooted in Aotearoa, guided by Te Ao Māori values, yet the vision  reaches far wider, on to empower the collective to reclaim the most powerful and accessible tool available, our breath.

“We are here to generate a ripple effect of breath, one facilitator, one whānau, one community at a time.”

The meaning of HineHau

Hine: the feminine essence, atua wāhine, woman, girl.
Hau: the breath, the wind of life, the unseen current that connects all things.

Together, HineHau is the feminine breath, the breath of atua wāhine that reminds us of our whakapapa, our connection to Papatūānuku, and the life-force that flows through every being.

This name also honours Hine-Ahu-One, who becomes Hine-Hau-One, the first woman, shaped from the red earth at Kurawaka. It was her first breath that awakened humanity. Her story reminds us that breath is not just survival, it is creation, memory, and whakapapa.

A Vision to Re-indigenise Breathwork:

Breathwork is not a new modality but an ancient tool our ancestors used.

This is why breathwork has gained so much popularity over the past 10 years, it is a deeply remembered state, something that is so natural to us as humans.

We work within the model of Te Whare Tapa Whā, Maori Health, to create a safe space for our participants. For this purpose all aspects of hauora are included in our practices, body (tinana), mind & heart (hinengaro), soul (wairua) and family / community (whanau).

Through working with this we acknowledge that healing is not an isolated experience, it must includes all facets that make up our holistic health.

The Story of HineHau

HineHau was born through lived experience. After years in the world of communications, marketing, and entrepreneurship and a lifetime of intuitive connection to wairua, I was guided to step fully into the work of healing and facilitation.

Since 2017, I’ve held space for countless wāhine and whānau across Aotearoa, witnessing the incredible capacity of the breath to bring people home to themselves. I've seen transformations in fertility, trauma, addiction, grief, leadership, and identity, all through the simple yet profound return to hā — the breath.

In 2022, I received the karanga to take students to start HineHau (formely Elevare).
